Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Norma J. Torres (CA-35), Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez (IL-03) and Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20) held a press conference today in support of the rule of law and democracy in Guatemala.

Washington, D.C. – On Sunday, Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez (IL-03), Vice Ranking Member of the Homeland Security Committee, concluded a bicameral congressional delegation visit to Guatemala and Honduras to meet with elected officials, the private sector, and civil society leaders. The delegation was led by U.S. Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) and included U.S. Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Peter Welch (D-VT), and Laphonza Butler (D-CA) and U.S. RepresentativeNorma Torres (D-CA-35).

Washington, DC - Yesterday, Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez (IL-03) took to the House floor to call on her colleagues to address the federal tax loopholes that allow wealthy American citizens to evade taxes by “moving” to Puerto Rico through Act 22. Ramirez argues that the loopholes are creating a crisis of displacement, tax evasion, and housing affordability in Puerto Rico while depriving congressional districts in the United States of crucial funding for the communities.

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez (IL-03) took to the House Floor to call out Republicans’ irrational and irresponsible rejection of popular, common-sense policies that could address immigration. During the debate of H R. 5283, legislation to prohibit communities from using federal lands to provide emergency refuge for asylum seekers, Ramirez pointed out how this legislation is another attempt by Republicans to scapegoat immigrants and divert attention from their own failed policies.
