Democracy
“The threats to our multiracial, multicultural democracy–dark money in politics, corruption among elected officials and judges, rising authoritarianism, and the attempts to disenfranchise Black, Brown, and low-income voters - concerns me. But I am clear: my neighbors expect me to work on policies to strengthen and protect our democracy.”
As a co-sponsor of the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, the Same Day Registration Act, and the Freedom to Vote Act, Congresswoman Ramirez is a champion for policies that ensure that every American can exercise their right to vote. In the face of extreme efforts to restrict access to the ballot box, suppress the vote, and undermine Americans’ participation in our democracy, the Congresswoman is fighting to reform campaign finance laws, safeguard democracy domestically and abroad, and end discriminatory voting policies to repair, strengthen and protect our multiracial, multicultural democracy.
Congresswoman Ramirez is an advocate for ethics, oversight, and good governance. Ramirez is a Co-Chair of the Task Force on Strengthening Democracy. Representative Ramirez also co-sponsors various bills to cultivate a more inclusive and responsive Government, including the Freedom to Vote Act, the Department of Peacebuilding Act, and the Democracy Restoration Act. Ramirez understands how critical it is to combat the influence of big money in politics and address our country’s legacy of disenfranchisement of Black, Brown, and low-income communities. That’s why Congresswoman Ramirez advances policies that ensure that elected officials, judges, and the executive branch serve the people and not special interests
A proud member of the Congressional Equality Caucus, the first-ever Congressional Hip Hop Power and Justice Task Force, and the Congressional Caucus for the Equal Rights Amendment, Ramirez is a fierce champion of civil rights and equal protections for everyone, including for our Black, Brown, women, and LGBTQI+ neighbors. As an advocate for the Equality Act, the ERA Amendment, and the Commission on Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation, and sponsor of the Wadee Act to call for an end to Anti-Palestinian, Islamophobic, Antisemitic violence, Ramirez is committed to protecting and defending the dignity of all people and cultivating an inclusive, diverse, and equitable society.
