Jobs and the Economy
“As the proud daughter of hard-working immigrant parents who worked long hours at minimum-wage jobs just to put food on our table, a roof over our heads, and keep the lights on, I know that when workers and working families thrive, we all thrive. Know that in me, you will always find someone who stands ready to fight for working families and to protect and support all workers’ right to have fair wages, safe and dignified working conditions, universal health care, and democracy in their workplace.”
Congresswoman Ramirez believes that when workers thrive, we all thrive. She continues to uplift the working class and laborers, including being a member of the House Congressional Labor Caucus (CLC) and cosponsoring key pro-labor legislation, including the Paycheck Fairness Act, the Raise the Wage Act, Domestic Workers Bill of Rights Act, the Gig Is Up Act, and more. As a member of CLC, Ramirez continues to advocate for workers' rights, protections, and fair, livable wages and increasing access to skilled training programs, like apprenticeships.
Congresswoman Ramirez believes in an economy where families have access to affordable and high-quality child care and long-term care, where there is paid leave for all, and where working families are not over-burdened by taxation, while mega-corporations fail to pay their fair share. Ramirez recognizes that an economy that works for everyone must ensure that working families wages keep up with rising costs of living and Congress invests in robust resources and tax credits. The Congresswoman cosponsors several important bills that would bring relief to working families, including the Family and Medical Insurance Leave (FAMILY) Act, Caring for All Families Act, and the End Diaper Need Act of 2023.
Congresswoman Ramirez believes our tax code shouldn't do more for billionaires and corporations than it does for working families. Ramirez is committed to addressing unfair policies that further overburden households already struggling to keep up. The Congresswoman is a co-lead of legislation that would build a fairer tax code, like the Single Parent Penalty Elimination Act, a cosponsor of the Tax Excessive CEO Pay Act of 2024, and voted “Yes” on H.R. 7024, the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act. Ramirez believes our democracy cannot thrive when income inequity persists.
Congresswoman Ramirez, like an overwhelming majority of Americans, grew up in a working-class family, seeing her parents work long hours at minimum wage jobs just to put food on the table, a roof over their heads, and keep the lights on. Ramirez stands with workers and believes that time and time again, workers demonstrate the power of coming together. That's why Ramirez came to Congress to uplift and support all workers’ right to collectively bargain for fair wages, safe working conditions, affordable health care, dignified retirement, and just benefits. She cosponsors key pro-labor legislation, including the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act and the Social Security Fairness Act of 2023.
Through her work as a former Executive Director of a social services organization, Congresswoman Ramirez understands that a strong safety net is critical to ensure that our communities’ - especially our elders - are cared for and protected. Ramirez understands that housing stability, food security, and access to healthcare are vital for older adults who have unique social, physical, and economic needs. That is why Ramirez supports policies that strengthen long-term services and expand a range of health-related social services and programs, Social Security 2100 Act, the Close the Medigap Act of 2023, and the Medicare Dental, Vision, and Hearing Benefit Act of 2023.
