As an Intern at our Congressional Office, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in public service while contributing to the overall mission of serving constituents and advocating for the community. You will work closely with our dedicated team of professionals to support the needs of individuals, families and essential organizations within our district. This internship provides a comprehensive, hands-on learning experience for those pursuing careers in public service and legislation, among other opportunities.
Qualified candidates must have strong oral and written communication skills, be eager to learn, detail-oriented, and passionate about public service.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
DC:
- Legislation:
- Researching legislation for the Member and the legislative team when requested
- Supporting legislative team members by drafting memos, attending hearings, briefings, and roundtables
- Assisting in writing correspondence letters to constituents on a variety of policy topics
- Communications and correspondence:
- Answering phones and direct engagement with constituents
- Attend in-person and virtual briefings for the legislative team.
- Provide internal support for the communications team, including, but not limited to: proofreading and daily press clips.
- Conduct media research of national, state, and local press to keep press lists up to date.
- Assist in the development of digital communications, including social media, fliers, e-newsletters and other collateral.
- Constituent Services:
- Schedule and Conduct Capitol Tours
- Provide operational and administrative support as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
District:
- Constituent Services:
- Provide support to the constituent services team with intake, casework requests and case management.
- Supporting processes like commendations, service academy nominations and letters of support.
- Outreach:
- Develop and maintain outreach lists
- Conduct research on the district, as requested
- Attend and staff field and outreach events
- Communications and correspondence:
- Answering phones and direct engagement with constituents
- Attend in-person and virtual briefings for the legislative team.
- Provide internal support for the communications team, including, but not limited to: proofreading and daily press clips.
- Conduct media research of national, state, and local press to keep press lists up to date.
- Assist in the development of digital communications, including social media, fliers, e-newsletters, and other collateral.
- Provide operational and administrative support as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned

Our office offers both full-time and part-time internships, but full-time availability is preferred. District ties and Illinois ties are strongly preferred. Bilingual language skills (ENG/SPAN, ENG/POLISH) are highly preferred.

- Be lawfully admitted for permanent residence and seeking citizenship as outlined in 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3)(B);
- Be (i) admitted as a refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157 or granted asylum under 8 U.S.C. § 1158 and (ii) have filed a declaration of intention to become a lawful permanent resident and then a citizen when eligible; or
- Owe allegiance to the U.S. (i.e., qualify as a non-citizen U.S. national under federal law).
