As an intern in our office, you will have the unique opportunity to gain valuable experience while contributing to our mission of serving constituents and advocating for our community. You will work closely with our dedicated team of professionals to support the needs of individuals, families, and organizations within our district. This internship provides a hands-on learning experience for those interested in a career in public service.
Qualified candidates must have strong oral and written communication skills, be eager to learn, be detail-oriented, and be passionate about public service.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
- Communications and correspondence:
- Answering phones and direct engagement with constituents
- Assisting in writing correspondence letters to constituents on a variety of policy topics.
- Provide internal support for the communications team, including, but not limited to, proofreading, website management, and daily press clips.
- Conduct media research of national, state, and local press to keep press lists up to date.
- Assist in the development of digital communications, including social media, flyers, e-newsletters, and other collateral.
- Constituent services:
- Support the constituent services team with intake, casework requests, and case management.
- Supporting processes like commendations, service academy nominations, and letters of support.
- Legislation:
- Researching legislation for the legislative team
- Attending hearings, briefings, and roundtables
- Drafting memos and background on policy topics
- Outreach:
- Develop and maintain outreach lists
- Research the district, as requested
- Attend and staff field and outreach events
- Provide operational and administrative support as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned

Our office offers both full-time and part-time internships, but full-time availability is preferred. District ties and Illinois ties are strongly preferred. Bilingual language skills (ENG/SPAN, ENG/POLISH) are highly preferred.
