Immigration

“I am the proud daughter of Guatemalan immigrants and wife of an incredible Dreamer. Addressing the global crisis of displacement and realizing comprehensive immigration reform is personal to me. I will continue to tirelessly work to strengthen asylum, provide relief to undocumented immigrants and Dreamers, and address the root causes of migration.”

As the proud daughter of Guatemalan immigrants, Congresswoman Ramirez is working to deliver relief for the broader immigrant community, create legal pathways to citizenship, keep families together, and help our communities and local economies thrive. In her first term in Congress, Ramirez has become a leader in comprehensive legislation to address our broken immigration system, including the American Dream and Promise Act, the Immigrant Detained Persons Legal Rights Act, the SHIELD Act, the American Families United Act, and the Destination Reception Assistance Act. Whether through legislative or executive action, Congresswoman Ramirez is advocating for policies that center our shared humanity and honor the values of our nation.

Through her work as the Vice- Ranking Member of the Homeland Security Committee and visits to Latin America, Congresswoman Ramirez knows the humanitarian crisis of displacement doesn’t start at the border and advocates for addressing the root causes of global migration. As the co-founder and co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on Global Migration, Congresswoman Ramirez aims to position Congress as an effective ally to global efforts to create a safer, more equitable world where people can build the life they want and deserve at home.

As businesses confront a historic labor shortage and inflation threatens working-class families, Congresswoman Ramirez supports the common sense solution of providing the broader immigrant community a safe and legal path to join the workforce, become financially stable, and fully contribute to our economies. Congresswoman Ramirez is a co-sponsor of the Farm Workforce Support Act and the Fairness for Farm Workers Act and has called for the Biden Administration to expedite work permits that address the labor shortage limiting our economy. Congresswoman Ramirez will continue the fight for work permits for all, whether our neighbors have just arrived or have been in our country for decades.
