Health Care
“In one of the wealthiest nations of the world, no person should have to choose between getting the care they need or staggering medical debt, buying their medication, or paying their mortgage. Health care is a human right, full stop. Congress must ensure everyone in our communities–no matter their zip code, citizenship status, or economic background– get the care they need when they need it.”
Congresswoman Ramirez is a longtime champion of expanding access to quality, affordable health care for all people. As a State Representative, she spearheaded the historic expansion of Medicaid, making Illinois the first state to provide Medicaid benefits regardless of immigration status. As a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, Congresswoman Ramirez fights for the passage of the Medicare for All Act, Close the Medigap Act, and the Medicare Dental, Vision, and Hearing Benefit Act. While she works towards Medicare for All, Ramirez is fighting to crack down on Medicare privatization, drugs and services price gouging, and corporate greed.
Congresswoman Ramirez is a long-time advocate of reproductive rights, gender-affirming care, and access to safe abortions. A member of the Democratic Women’s Caucus and the Pro-Choice Caucus, Ramirez has sponsored legislation ranging from the Women’s Health Protection Act to the Reproductive Health Care Accessibility Act. Ramirez is clear that the fight for reproductive care must center women, transgender people, and gender-nonconforming individuals. Representative Ramirez is committed to protecting bodily autonomy and make of Roe V. Wade the law of the land through legislative fix.
Health equity continues to be a priority for Congresswoman Ramirez. As a co-sponsor of the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act, the Anti-Racism in Public Health Act, and the Health Equity and Access under the Law for Immigrant Families Act, Ramirez believes that healthcare systems and providers must address healthcare deserts, implicit bias in service delivery, and a lack of linguistic access and cultural competency, all of which contribute to disparate health outcomes for communities of color. Ramirez is clear that everyone deserves accessible, responsive, high quality care, regardless of race, language, legal status, or zip code.
