Ramirez Statement on Administration Rule Expanding Health Care for Dreamers
Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez (IL-03)released the following statement after the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced a finalized rule that will expand access to health care for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients.
“One year ago, President Biden made a promise to our nation: expand health care for Dreamers. Today, our nation begins to fulfill that promise to approximately 100,000 Dreamers who, despite collectively paying billions in federal taxes annually, have never accessed affordable health care. In Illinois, I proudly led legislation to provide health care coverage regardless of immigration status. Today’s finalized rule builds on those efforts to ensure Dreamers can have their first preventive visit or the treatment they urgently need. To all immigrants, to all their families and loved ones, to all the advocates who have fought to get us here today: your voices are being heard, and it is your collective work that made today possible.
As the proud daughter of immigrants and the wife of a Dreamer, I am constantly reminded NOW is the time to fulfill our nation's promises to Dreamers and all immigrants. Today’s ruling is a first step. Let this victory fuel our fight to deliver MORE, including a pathway to citizenship, for DACA recipients and all undocumented immigrants!”
