Congresswoman Ramirez Statement on Vote to Keep Government Open and Communities Funded

November 14, 2023

Washington, DC — Today, Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez (IL-03) released the following statement:

“Forty-three days ago, I joined my Democratic colleagues to pass a clean Continuing Resolution (CR), which afforded us 45 days to fully fund the government. Immediately after its passage, we were subjected to Republican infighting that suspended the House’s floor procedures for 22 days and kept us from passing legislation. Today, I voted again for another CLEAN CR. I voted “YES” to defend the paychecks of our federal employees, the WIC program parents rely on to feed their children, and the benefits that support our veterans and seniors. My vote defends the everyday American who can’t bear the high cost of a Republican Shutdown and the humanitarian crises it would create here in our nation. Extreme members of the Republican party would try to convince you that the government isn’t working, but the truth is their party and their leadership is what’s broken. Today is evidence that despite the best efforts of those extremists in Congress, the majority of us will continue fighting for the American people. I stand steadfast in my commitment to protect essential safety net programs and vital services, deliver federal resources back to our districts, and prevent further cuts that threaten the well-being of our families.”
