Washington, DC—Today, Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez (IL-03) released the following statement, after reports that former President Donald Trump and Speaker Mike Johnson will reveal a bill tomorrow at Mar-a-Lago aimed at preventing undocumented immigrants from voting in federal elections.

“Here comes another ignorant, dangerous, tired attempt to add to the BIG LIE and undermine Americans' faith in our democracy. All non-US citizens, including undocumented immigrants, are ineligible to vote already. Many wait eagerly for the day they can vote, but today is not that day. The bill that currently federally indicted former President Trump and “can’t get my caucus in order” Johnson are going to announce is racist and ridiculous. Get off the mic.

 Tomorrow’s announcement is an attack on American democracy. It is a blatant attempt to suppress Black and Brown votes using tired anti-immigrant rhetoric. We must recognize Republican incompetence when we see it. DO NOT TAKE THE BAIT.”
