STATEMENT: Congresswoman Delia Ramirez Appointed to Vice Ranking Member of Homeland Security Committee

February 13, 2023

Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Delia Ramirez (IL-03) released the following statement on the announcement of her appointment to serve as Vice Ranking Member on the House Committee on Homeland Security.

“I am honored to serve as the House Committee on Homeland Security’s Vice Ranking Member in the 118th Congress; I am grateful to Ranking Member Bennie G. Thompson (MS-02) and my colleagues on the appointment. The Committee’s jurisdiction, which includes the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Customs and Border Protection CBP), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), has a tremendous impact and influence on the people and communities I represent in Illinois,” said Congresswoman Ramirez. “As an unapologetic advocate for comprehensive immigration reform that does not cruelly pit some immigrants against others, I look forward to working with Ranking Member Thompson and my colleagues on our urgent call to action. The cruelty embedded in our current immigration policies and practices, particularly along the southern border, is not the answer. It is long past time that a pathway to citizenship be established. In the meantime, we need to put every protection in place to prevent deportations, not expedite them. I will continue fighting to ensure that DACA recipients can permanently adjust their legal status, eliminate the case backlog in immigration court, advance initiatives to reduce fees so that more individuals can apply for citizenship, and oppose deportations to keep families and communities together.”
