Ramirez Statement on 3rd Continuing Resolution Vote to Keep Government Open and Serving IL-03
Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez (IL-03) released the following statement:
“Today, for the third time, I voted in favor of a Continuing Resolution (CR) to keep the government open. Congress has a responsibility to fund the government and our communities. We must be clear the government is not yet fully funded. The reliance on CRs to avoid a shutdown only masks the Republicans’ inability to govern. The failure of extreme Republicans to negotiate in good faith and pass FY24 appropriation bills puts our communities at risk. It subjects them to unnecessary uncertainty about whether the federal government will provide the services and benefits they earned, deserve, and need. Extreme Republican irresponsibility is costing community organizations in IL-03 more than 13.5 million in federal funding for critical projects to secure safe, affordable housing, expand food security efforts, and make important infrastructure improvements.
I’ve said it before: we need to fund the government. It’s time to refocus and recommit ourselves to the appropriations process for an FY24 package that protects essential safety net programs and vital services, brings federal resources back to my district & the state of Illinois, and prevents further cuts that threaten the well-being of our communities.”
