Ramirez Statement on 25 Years of Chicago's Plan for Transformation
CHICAGO — Today, on the 25th anniversary of Chicago’s Plan for Transformation, Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez (IL-03) convened housing advocates, community leaders, elected officials, and the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Richard J. Monocchio to assess the state of housing in Illinois’ Third Congressional District. Following the convening, the Congresswoman shared the following statement:
“Twenty-five years later, a ten-year plan for public housing continues to fundamentally impact the housing landscape in Illinois’ 3rd Congressional district and beyond. What is clear is that we have more work to do to ensure safe, quality, affordable housing for ALL. I was honored to be joined by HUD officials, including U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Richard J. Monocchio, local elected officials, public housing residents, affordable housing advocates, and nonprofit leaders, to mark the moment and identify the intergovernmental action needed to address homelessness, displacement, and lack of affordable housing units. We need transformational investment and unprecedented development of greater affordable housing stock in our communities. Change will require honesty about the legacy of the Plan for Transformation and a commitment to expand proven solutions and forge new, innovative paths. I look forward to working with tenants, organizers, leaders, organizations, and HUD to that end.”
