Congresswoman Ramirez Votes to Remove Speaker Kevin McCarthy

Washington, DC - Today, Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez (IL-03) released the following statement after voting to remove Speaker Kevin McCarthy:

I voted “YES” on the motion to vacate. Each of us entrusted with the privilege of leadership is called to take that responsibility seriously. Today’s action was a consequence of Congressman McCarthy’s repeated history of breached trust, compromised integrity, extremism indulged, and chaos stoked. Every single one of those leadership failures has been on display again during the appropriation process. And now, in a moment when we have precious little time to secure funding for essential services and supports for working families, we are again dealing with Republican irresponsibility and infighting. If what we have experienced in the last two weeks is the fruit of McCarthy’s tenure as Speaker and the Republicans’ attempt at leadership, enough is enough.
