Congresswoman Ramirez Statement on Texas Court Judge Declaring Keep Families Together Program Illegal

November 9, 2024

Chicago, IL— Today, Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez (IL-03), the Vice Ranking Member of the Homeland Security Committee, released the following statement after Trump-appointed Judge J. Campbell Barker of Texas struck down the Biden Administration’s “Keeping Families Together” program.

“For years, Trump’s extremely unpopular agenda to persecute immigrants and terrorize families has been loyally carried out by his appointees and followers. Judge Barker’s cruel decision shows us just what a Trump presidency will mean for diverse American families. While the decision to rob families of a pathway to remain together is predictable and enraging, now is not the moment for us in Congress or the Administration to retreat or give up,” said Ramirez. “Families have waited years for a sigh of relief. 76% of Americans agree that we should provide citizenship pathways for immigrants. In the last few days of Biden’s presidency, our mandate from the American people is clear: let’s be bold; let’s be proactive; let’s deliver broad protection and relief. We must make it as hard as possible for Trump and his loyalists to rip our families apart.
