Congresswoman Ramirez Statement on the Republican Efforts to Push for a National Shutdown

Washington, DC — Today, Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez (IL-03), the Vice Ranking Member of the Homeland Security Committee, released the following statement:

“Speaker McCarthy, once again, gambles with the lives and well-being of everyday Americans just to please the extreme MAGA Republicans and score some political points. As we get closer to our deadline before a Republican-forced shutdown, Republicans find themselves playing political games, pursuing conspiracy theories, and pushing nonsense culture wars. These choices will put in danger the veterans waiting for their PACT Act benefits to be processed and to get the health care they deserve, the seniors waiting for their Social Security verification to receive their checks, the families counting on their monthly SNAP benefits to feed their children, and the frontline federal workers living paycheck to paycheck. 

Speaker McCarthy, the extremist Republicans, and their cruel political stunts are putting the lives of veterans, seniors, families, and everyday Americans in danger. They have proven they are not fit to lead.”
