Congresswoman Ramirez Statement on President Biden Remarks on United States’ Response to Israel-Gaza
Washington, DC — Today, Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez (IL-03) released the following statement after yesterday’s presidential address:
“The President and I agree on this: the decisions we make today are going to determine the future for decades to come. I, too, DO NOT want us to repeat the mistakes of the past, be blinded by the fog of war, or allow fear and suspicion, anger and rage to lead us to compromise our values. That is why we must achieve a de-escalation and ceasefire, the evacuation of the 500 US citizens and their families in Gaza, and the safe return of the hostages.
Any aid package to Israel must strengthen our path to peace and be conditioned on an end to the siege, protection & humanitarian aid to civilians, commitment to diplomacy and upholding international law, and the restoration of food, water, and electricity to Gaza.
We are responsible for the causalities caused by the bombs and weapons of war we send to Israel. We must take a stand to protect civilians, build international cooperation, and work together towards the long-term stability of the region. ”
