Congresswoman Ramirez Statement on Passage of First Half of FY24 Appropriations Bills

March 6, 2024

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez (IL-03) released the following statement:

“After months of uncertainty, the House finally voted on the first half of bipartisan negotiated FY24 appropriations bills. Today, I voted ‘YES’ on the appropriations package to ensure the government can fulfill its responsibilities to the American people, fund critical safety net programs that help working families across the country, and bring resources back to IL-03. I am thrilled that more than $13.5 million across 15 community projects have been included in this package and, with its passage, will direct resources back to the people who call IL-03 home.

With the package, we are fully funding WIC, which support more than 600k households in Illinois, ensuring women and children have access to nutritious meals. We secured more than $140 billion in federal funding to provide health care and services to our veterans, including the 15K veterans in IL-03 who earned their promised benefits. We are also making a historic investment of $75.5 billion for the Department of Housing to expand and protect fair housing options and prevent evictions for the more than 5,000 Illinoisians in IL-03 who count on housing assistance.  I am also proud that my colleagues and I were able to defeat some of the extreme cuts proposed to vital federal services and the poison pills that endanger climate protections and women’s rights.

We must remember the government is not yet fully funded. As we continue negotiations on the remaining bills, we must continue to defend and protect working families and address years of underinvestment in domestic programs that Americans depend on.”
