Congresswoman Ramirez Statement on Foreign Aid Supplemental Funding Vote
Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez (IL-03) released the following statement:
“For more than two years, Ukrainians have been under attack by a dictator, a warmonger, an extremist. After a week wasted by the Republican leadership on messaging legislation, today, I voted to deliver the aid Ukrainians desperately need to protect their homes, care for their wounded and sick, and recover from Putin’s attacks.
Every time I look at legislation, I ask myself if it is going to bring us closer to lasting peace and prevent a regional war. I ask if the legislation will divide us or unite us. When it comes to unconditional aid to the extremist, warmonger Netanyahu, the truth is that one more dollar to him would serve to bomb children, divide us further, and dismantle any chance at long-lasting peace. In good conscience, I couldn’t support sending more than $14 billion in funding to Netanyahu’s plan to destroy the Palestinian community, diminish Israeli safety, and instigate a regional war.
We imposed significant accountability measures on the Ukrainian government in today's package. Every day, we impose significant accountability on nonprofits that receive federal funding. But today, we gave Netanyahu's campaign of death full latitude with no oversight. It's despicable.
We must continue to resist. I’ve said before, and my NO vote said it again: “Not one more dollar. Not one more bomb. Not one more excuse.”
