Role: The Office of Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez (IL-03) seeks an experienced Communications Manager/Communications Assistant to join the Washington, DC team. The Communications Manager/Communications Assistant supports efforts to communicate the Congresswoman’s work and her perspective to key audiences across multiple platforms. They are the Office’s primary print, digital and visual content creator. The Communications Manager/Communications Assistant executes against a robust communications strategy to articulate the Congresswoman’s vision and voice. They work closely with the Legislative and Outreach teams to enable the Congresswoman and the Office to communicate in the most strategic, values-aligned way across mediums in ways that move the Congresswoman’s priorities forward.
This is not an entry-level position. The position is based in Washington, DC and is an in-office position. The ideal candidate is a team player who can juggle multiple projects, initiate and deliver professional work under high pressure and tight deadlines, develop and implement new ideas, take and implement feedback effectively, and stay organized. The position assumes flexible hours, including long hours, nights, and weekends, as needed.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Communications Strategy: Implement the Office’s bilingual (SPAN/ENG) communications and messaging strategy
- Content Creation and Platform Management: Manage and support the Office’s content creation strategy, including management of print, video, digital and website assets
- Press Support: Assist in the execution of the Office’s media and public relations strategy for the Member
- Event Planning and Management: Work laterally with team members to communicate congressional work and plan and manage press conferences, telephone town halls, and other events in both Washington, D.C., and the District
- Administration: Coordinate across functions to advance strategic priorities
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 1-2 years of experience in developing communication strategy for elected officials, government agencies, non-profit organizations, or similar entities.
- Fluency in Spanish is highly preferred.
- Exceptional Communication Skills: Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills. Track record of action-oriented/persuasive writing yielding results.
- Digital and Mass Mail: Experience with digital communications, including paid ads and analytics reports. Understanding of the House Franking process and regulations. Track record of successfully building a digital base.
- Digital Proficiency: Functional understanding of Canva, Adobe Pro, and other platforms for communication, design and engagement.
- Media Proficiency: Strong understanding of print, broadcast, and online media.
- Team Player: Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships and to coordinate efforts to reduce silos. Willingness to accept performance-based criticism and direction.
- Detail and Deadline-Oriented: Capable of producing high-quality communications materials under tight deadlines with limited support. Track record of exceptional planning and time management. Ability to work under pressure, and comfortable balancing multiple responsibilities at once.
- Strategic Thinker: Politically savvy and skilled at navigating challenging situations with the press and staff.

Salary Range: $50,000-65,000. Title and pay commensurate with experience.
