Army Intelligence Officer Who Resigned Over Gaza, Harrison Mann, Stands with Congresswoman Ramirez in Protest of Netanyahu’s Congressional Address
Congresswoman Ramirez took to the House Floor to call on her colleagues to listen to officials and diplomats like Mann who are urging our nation to change course
Washington, DC – Tomorrow, Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez (IL-03) will be joined by a former U.S. Army Major who resigned in protest of the Administration’s support for Israel during its Gaza campaign, Harrison J. Mann, to stand against Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s joint address to Congress. Congresswoman Ramirez and the former executive officer of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) Middle East/Africa Regional Center will participate in events to boycott Netanyahu’s address to Congress and urge the Administration to halt the delivery of weapons of war and military funding for Netanyahu’s administration.
On the eve of the address, Congresswoman Ramirez took to the House Floor to call on her colleagues to listen to officials and diplomats like Mann, who are urging our nation to change course. Floor speech here.
“It is outrageous that an International Court-accused war criminal – who has waged a war that violates international law, has claimed the lives of more than 38,900 Palestinians, displaced millions of civilians, and has endangered the lives of hostages and delayed their release – would be allowed to speak to a Joint Session of Congress. We must LISTEN to the American people and our officials and diplomats, like Major Harrison Mann, who are saying ENOUGH. Not one more bomb. Not one more dollar. Not one more excuse for Netanyahu’s atrocities,” said Congresswoman Ramirez. “I am honored that Harrison Mann, a patriot who has sacrificed so much for our country and who continues to serve through his dissent, will join me to speak truth to power and urge our Administration and my colleagues to stop our nation’s complicity in violations of international law. May his presence and bravery inspire my colleagues to demand we change course.”
“I hope my presence tomorrow reminds lawmakers that they will not regret taking a stand for what’s right. I commend the members who have refused to grant an audience to the man orchestrating an ongoing campaign of mass murder, starvation, and ethnic cleansing, and who has never missed an opportunity to defy and undermine their own president. I encourage them to continue using their voices and their votes with urgency to suspend arms shipments, force Netanyahu to embrace a ceasefire, and restore humanitarian aid before famine and disease engulf all of Gaza, and the Israeli government drags us deeper into needless wars in the region,” said Mann.
Harrison Mann is part of 12 administration officials and diplomats who penned a letter urging the Biden Administration to end the support of the war in Gaza. In the letter, the group argues that their “individual and common experiences demonstrate an Administration that has prioritized politics over just and fair policymaking; profit over national security; falsehoods over facts; directives over debate; ideology over experience, and special interest over the equal enforcement of the law.”
